The Bread of life. “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. … Truly I say to you whoever believes has eternal life. ….here is the bread that comes down from heaven. Whoever eats of this bread will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world… truly I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood you have no life in you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up on the last day.” (John 6:35, 47-51, 53-54). At the last supper Jesus would also institute communion: “And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, saying, ‘This is my body given for you, do this in remembrance of me.’ In the same way after supper he took the cup saying, ‘This cup is the new covenant in my blood which is poured out for you.'” (Luke 22:19-20).
