"Blessed are they whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. Blessed is the man whose sin the Lord will never count against him."
Thoughts for Today:Paul is quoting David from Psalm 32:1-2. Verse 3 continues: "When I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long." I believe David was writing about his affair with Bathsheba and the murder of her husband Uriah (2 Samuel 11) -- it's what happens to us when we allow sin to go un-confessed and un-addressed in our lives -- it eats us from the inside out. David is saying: "When I hid my sin it affected me physically." We have seen this confirmed over and over again by scientific studies -- there is an absolute and definite connection between our emotional state and physical health.
Psalm 32:4a: "For day and night your hand was heavy upon me..." Do you think it was for punishment that God placed His hand upon David? I don't think so.
Not long ago my wife Sherry and I were hiking with our eight year old daughter Amanda. As we walked along a particularly steep part of the trail Amanda's foot began to slip on some loose rocks. Sherry reached out at the last second and grabbed Amanda by the back of her jacket just before she tumbled down the side of the mountain. Do you think Sherry placed her hand on Amanda to save her or to punish her? Do you not think the Lord would do the same and more for us when we stumble?
Psalm 32:5: "Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, 'I will confess my transgressions to the LORD' and you forgave the guilt of my sin." Isn't that beautiful? God is so good!
Questions to Ponder:Do you feel weary? Could it be because of un-confessed sin? The Lord has His hand upon us all -- not to punish but protect. Why? Because He loves us. Will you go to Him now? Ask for His divine forgiveness. Your sin has been covered by the blood of Jesus!
