"Some men came, bringing to him a paralytic, carried by four of them. Since they could not get him to Jesus because of the crowd, they made an opening in the roof above Jesus and, after digging through it, lowered the mat the paralyzed man was lying on. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic man, 'Son, your sins are forgiven.' ” (Mark 2:3-5, NIV)
When you recognize someone’s need, do you care to help? Many people have spiritual and physical needs you can meet either by yourself or with others who are also concerned for the same. The paralytic's need moved his friends into action, and they brought him to Jesus. It wasn’t the paralytic man’s faith that moved Jesus but the faith of those four men who brought him. Jesus responded to their faith and healed the man. For good or bad, our faith affects others. We can look for opportunities to bring people closer to Jesus. We cannot make a person Christian, but we can do much through our words, actions, and love and give him a chance to respond.
As the Word says, "What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such a faith save him? Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, 'Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed,' and does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it?" (James 2:14-16). It’s through our faith and obedience that we show our commitment towards God. Our deeds are a verification of our faith in Christ. True faith always results in deeds, and faith brings us salvation.
Lord, help me to look for opportunities to help others get closer to you. Amen.
