"Garbage In, Garbage Out"Galatians 2:16b-17
So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law, because by the works of the law no one will be justified. But if, in seeking to be justified in Christ, we Jews find ourselves also among the sinners, doesn't that mean that Christ promotes sin? Absolutely not!
Thoughts for Today:In Mark 7:18-23, Jesus asked: "'Are you so dull? Don't you see that nothing that enters a person from the outside can defile them? For it doesn't go into their heart but into their stomach, and then out of the body.' (In saying this, Jesus declared all foods clean.) He went on: 'What comes out of a person is what defiles them. For it is from within, out of a person's heart, that evil thoughts come-sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. All these evils come from inside and defile a person.'"
As we compare these two sections of Scripture, we can see a great big warning sign flashing in front of us. What does it say? BE CAREFUL! On the one hand we know we are justified by faith in Christ (the sin that would have prohibited me from receiving the blessing of God was taken away by the blood of Jesus). Yet, on the other hand, we can also bring a whole lot of problems upon ourselves, simply by not paying attention to what we do.
The lesson for all of us is to watch our steps carefully. We might think, "It's okay to watch this movie (there are only a few questionable scenes); hang out with those people (their language isn't too bad); or listen to that music (the lyrics aren't important)." But we're kidding ourselves. It's garbage in and garbage out. In this day and age, we have to be vigilant, or we'll be drawn in and we too will have our hearts defiled. And not from the outside, but from the inside out.
Questions to Ponder:Have you been participating in some questionable activities? Our society wants us to believe that there is nothing wrong with anything, yet we know the deceitfulness of sin. In what areas do you need to place some restrictions upon yourself? Is it with television programming, movie viewing, places you go, people you hang out with, or something else? What is the Lord speaking to you about now? Will you obey?
