"A Good Faith Guarantee"2 Corinthians 5:5
Now the one who has fashioned us for this very purpose is God, who has given us the Spirit as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.
Thoughts for Today:In real estate, when buyers find just the right house, their offer to purchase is always accompanied by an earnest money deposit. Why? Because it is a guarantee of their willingness to complete the transaction if the seller agrees to the terms of the offer. I find it incredibly encouraging that God used a similar process in His offer to us of forgiveness of sins, glorified bodies, and the resulting eternal life in heaven. He has given us the Holy Spirit as the deposit today, which is our guarantee of what is to come.
In other words, Jesus Christ purchased us, and the indwelling Holy Spirit is the believer's security deposit. But His offer is not just limited to future glory -- unlike a real estate security deposit we can "use" the Holy Spirit to guide us right now. His help is for today in our battle with the flesh. One day, we will move out of our present decaying, decrepit, old house, and into the new one, custom-designed by the Lord. How wonderful that will be! Until then, we have the Holy Spirit as a guarantee of our eternal home.
Questions to Ponder:God has released His deposit (the Holy Spirit) for use by believers today. We don't have to wait until we get to heaven. We can live victorious lives now. Are you living by the power of His indwelling Spirit? Will you use the Lord's good faith deposit today?
