...because when we are clothed, we will not be found naked. For while we are in this tent, we groan and are burdened, because we do not wish to be unclothed but to be clothed instead with our heavenly dwelling, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life.
Thoughts for Today:When Paul uses the word "naked", he means disembodiment. For any Buddhists we may run into, this is a great passage to describe the foundational Christian truth of what happens once our spirit leaves the earthly body: "we will not be found naked." So Buddha was wrong. The goal of the spirit of humanity is not to merge into a great nothingness, rather it is to individually inhabit the glorified bodies God has prepared for each of His children.
We find in Scripture, "nakedness" represents shame and humiliation. For example: Genesis 3:10: "I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid."; Isaiah 47:3: Your nakedness will be exposed and your shame uncovered. I will take vengeance; I will spare no one."; Revelation 3:18: "I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see."
How will believers be dressed when we are raised from the dead? We will be clothed in His righteousness (Isaiah 61:I0a: "I delight greatly in the Lord; my soul rejoices in my God. For he has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of his righteousness.") But not everyone will br clothed in righteousness when they are raised from the dead. Job 8:22: "Your enemies will be clothed in shame, and the tents of the wicked will be no more." Jesus said in John 5:29: "Do not be amazed at this, for a time is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his voice and come out
Questions to Ponder:One day, all of humanity will rise to face the judgment of the Lord. The question is: Since no one will be naked, how will you be clothed? In your sin, or in the righteousness of our Savior? Have you accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior? Have you made that commitment to Him with your heart and your mouth? Romans 10:9: "If you declare with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." Who do you know that needs to hear the Gospel message today? Will you share?
