Receiving the Message of Knowledge1 Corinthians 12:8b
...to another the message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit...
Thoughts for Today:When Jesus came to earth He set aside all of His power (Philippians 2:7-8):"But made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death--even death on a cross!" Jesus was a human being -- flesh and blood, just like us -- only without sin. So when the miraculous occurred during His ministry on the earth, the reason was not because He was Jesus (the man). But rather because He was walking in complete harmony with the Father, and therefore fully empowered by the Holy Spirit. It is the same kind of power we have access to as well.
In John 4:17-18, Jesus said to the Samaritan woman at the well: "Go, call your husband and come back." "I have no husband," she replied. Jesus said to her, ''You are right when you say you have no husband. The fact is, you have had five husbands, and the man you now have is not your husband. What you have just said is quite true."
Jesus knew (what He could not have known as a man), through revelation by the Spirit.
In Acts 5:3-4, Peter said: "Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land? Didn't it belong to you before it was sold? And after it was sold, wasn't the money at your disposal? What made you think of doing such a thing? You have not lied to men but to God."
So how did Peter know this information? Do you think he hired a private investigator to follow Ananias and his wife Sapphira around? Of course not! It was only revealed as a "...message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit." The same Spirit who was with Jesus and Peter is with us today.
Questions to Ponder:Would you like to have "the message of knowledge" come to you personally? Open and read your Bible. Let the Lord speak to you through His Word. If you read something and then say to yourself, "Now I understand what that means," it's probably because the Spirit has given you a message of knowledge. Perhaps you should write it down!
