Limited Thinking1 Corinthians 10:28b
...for the earth is the Lord's, and the fullness thereof (KJV).
Thoughts for Today:The King James Version of verse 28 concludes with the phrase, "...for the earth is the Lord's, and the fullness thereof." It was repeated from verse 26 yet eliminated in the NIV. Some commentators have suggested it was a mistake by the ones who hand-copied the original letter, therefore it was removed. I don't think it was a mistake. Paul seems to be reiterating his previous point -- this time by saying, "If eating something will cause your brother to stumble, don't worry about it because there's an entire world full of food God has created for you to eat."
A lot of Christians I talk to could use a similar perspective regarding their questionable activities. They complain: "There's nothing to watch but that; there's nowhere to go but there; or there's nothing to do but that." The Bible says, "The whole earth is the Lord's." With a little effort we surely can find somewhere else to go, or something else to do, that won't compromise our walk with Him. We just need to use a little creativity and have a greater desire to please the Lord than our sinful natures.
Questions to Ponder:Has your thinking become limited? Let your mind consider all of the options the Lord has provided. The whole earth is the Lord's -- perhaps we can find something else to do tonight rather than park ourselves in front of the television?
