His Children His Love - Sheldon Bass
"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life." John 3:16 KJV
Around the 1950's, John 3:16 became the most memorized bible verse in America. We saw it displayed on handbills at sporting events and various public gatherings and posted on billboards across the country. That well known verse joyfully proclaims the staggering love of God. He sent His own Son as a sacrifice for our sin, and to bring us abundance of life that lasts forever.
Comparing the 3:16 of John's gospel to the3:16 of his first epistle, John draws from God's sacrificial act to show us the kind of love all Christians should practice.
"This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters." 1 st John 3:16 NIV
It is sacrificial action which best displays God's love through the lives we live. We surrender our lives to Christ and then lay down our self-wills in service to one another. Within Jesus' church on earth, established at Pentecost, the most beautiful cycle of God's love is perpetuated.
The Holy Spirit wants to showcase His mind-boggling love through you and me. As we submit to Him, He enables us with the power to do so. Try asking this question daily: "How well am I showing the world what God's love is like?"
Lord, help me to be the hands, feet and voice of Jesus here on earth, amen.
"God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them." 1st John 4:16b NIV
